Photoredox catalysis: How naïve are the mechanisms we see? In this hybrid review, we exemplify with 5 different organophotocatalyst families how excited state pathways are profoundly overturned by pre-redox modifications and changes in aggregation state / catalyst-substrate preassemblies.
